Dr. L. A. Mejía graduated in Geological Engineering from the National University of Engineering and holds a Doctorate and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. His doctoral investigation was focused on the numerical modelling of the fracturing process in rock materials under fluid-mechanics coupling conditions. He has hands-on experience as a geomechanical engineer in underground mines and as a researcher focused on rock mechanics and numerical modelling. Dr. Mejía has participated in the planning and implementation of geomechanical departments in underground mines in Peru and in providing geotechnical consultancy services in Brazil, Mexico and Canada. He also provides expertise in geomechanical mapping, ground control in underground excavations, geomechanical site characterization and the use of geotechnical programs.
