Congratulations! RockEng ’s 2023 Graduate Scholarship Recipient is Komal Mann.
Komal Mann is a MASc student at the University of Toronto in the department of Civil and Mineral Engineering. Her research deals with mining issues that are seen in the block cave mining method. Komal received her undergraduate mining engineering degree from the Lassonde Mineral Engineering program at the University of Toronto.
Prior to beginning her graduate studies, Komal completed her student internship and worked after graduation at Newmont’s Brucejack operation. During her time spent onsite, she gained knowledge from many mentors in multiple categories of mine engineering, such as ventilation, drill and blast, mine planning, and mine operations. She was able to share these experiences with fellow students as a mineral engineering representative of the University of Toronto Women in Mining Chapter and the Industry Representative of MinClub, a student-run club within the Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program.
Komal wishes to acquire ground control knowledge during her graduate studies and gain operational experience to continue towards the goal of becoming a well-rounded mining engineer.
